Volunteer spotlight: Kathleen Garland-Rike

Volunteers are the heart of our Party. They keep thingsrunning effectively not only during the campaign seasons but during the slowertimes as well. Our volunteer spotlight this month is on Kathleen Garland-Rike,who not only worked incredibly hard during the fall campaign but is one of ourhardest working and most loyal volunteers in this slower time. You will see herworking behind the office reception desk on Fridays, but she spends many morehours at the office and in meetings as the KCDP Membership chair.

Meals for Students

Youth Development Center - Crosstown at Rose

The first three days of the Christmas school break are Dec. 22, 23 and 24. Students will be out of school and, for many that means they will not be getting meals on those days. Help us prepare and serve lunch for 25 kids each day. Since there isn't a kitchen at the center we have to have simple, easy to serve meals like sloppy joes.

Youth Development Center - Kalamazoo Parks & Recreation

Starting in January 2009, there will be a 4th Friday Family Feast Cooking Club. Teens will be taught by KCDP volunteers on how to prepare nutritional meals. All ingredients will be provided for the teens to take home and cook for their own families.

Current plans are for IBEW volunteers to build a full kitchen.
