After passing the Michigan bar exam 26 years ago, David Leyton built a successful private law practice as a civil litigator representing working men and women who were victims of negligence and injustice. During that time, he also became very active in local community organizations and the political process. Prior to being elected and re-elected Genesee County Prosecutor, David served for 12 years on the Flint Township Board of Trustees, first as a Trustee and later as the Township Clerk. In November 2008, David Leyton was re-elected to his second four-year term as Genesee County Prosecuting Attorney. Prior to his service as Prosecutor, David served 12 years on the Flint Township Board of Trustees, serving first as trustee and later as clerk.
He is involved in a number of community activities including the Genesee County Bar Association where he serves as Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors, on the Marketing and Membership Committee, and on the Executive Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors at the Child Advocacy Center, the GISD Attendance Task Force, the Genesee County Judicial Council and Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. He is also a member of the Board of Directors and Legislative Committee for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Association of Michigan. One of David’s side interests is working as a high school football referee for the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

David and Therese have been married for 29 years and have four children: Aimee, a pediatric resident at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor; Andrew, an architect in Grand Blanc; Erica, a graduate student in dietetics at Michigan State University; and Adam, a junior in the school of Sports Management at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
