Yes, that's right. Eight-term Kalamazoo City Commissioner Don Cooney is running for Congress! And, after coming closer to winning Michigan's sixth Congressional district in 2008 than anyone in the last 20 years, why not? Currently a Social Work Professor at Western Michigan University, Don Cooney has spent his entire life working to make certain everyone's voice is heard in our political process. A lifelong advocate for working families, young people, women's rights, civil rights, the poor, minorities, and most importantly, peace and economic justice, Don Cooney is an ally to all citizens. Commissioner Cooney has founded the majority of citizen-powered and empowering groups in Kalamazoo, all while transcending labels, stereotypes and partisan politics.
