KCDP Candidate Podcast #14 - Julie Rogers

Podcast AudioKCDP Candidate Podcast #14 - Julie Rogers with host Martin Burch

Julie Rogers ran in 2006 and came 400 out of 42k votes short of winning then. This year she believes that with an open seat, the message of change she's brought to her campaign will carry her to victory. She's a big believer in bipartisan cooperation, looks to the Detroit model of coalition building, and will seek consensus. A physical therapist by training, she's very passionate about health issues, especially with respect to seniors, and feels her experience in health will serve her in Lansing as she raises health issues in the legislature. On the campaign trail Rogers has been listening to people's frustrations with the economy in Michigan, jobs in particular, and are seeking the change she offers. On the subject of energy she thinks more can be done on legislation to promote renewable portfolio standards, meaning legislative mandates for standards for energy companies to provide renewable energy. "A good education equals a good economy," she says, and is in favor of increased state funding for WMU. Rogers helps with the Festival of Trees and is already working on this year's event.
