Join us for our monthly Third Thursday meeting. Our Febuary speaker is KCDP Executive Committee member Lee Kirk.

Lee will be discussing the propsed Edison Neighborhood Credit Union.

Community Promise -- a neighborhood-based credit union for Kalamazoo.

Community Promise Federal Credit Union hopes to open its doors this summer in the Edison neighborhood.  Community Promise will have a low-income designation from the federal government, which means that it can accept non-member deposit and secondary capital, including gifts and grants.  It will also be a Community Development Credit Union, joining some 250 other CDCUs around the country who focus on serving the underserved.

CDCUs offer an economic lifeline to low-income communities that have been abandoned by commercial banks and targeted by high-priced check cashers and predatory lenders.  CDCUs also provide a platform to serve the broader community through outreach to disadvantaged populations and neighborhoods, participation in government programs, and partnerships with the private-sector in community revitalization efforts.

Community Promise is proud of its many partners, all of whom will help it reach out to the many Kalamazoo families who need an alternative to payday lenders, check cashers, and other predatory businesses that prey on the vulnerable and unwary.

Every CDCU was founded in the belief that those who work hard deserve the opportunity to achieve financial security.  Each CDCU can tell a story of beating the odds, helping the vulnerable, and pursuing a mission that is as large as the American Dream and as specific as the future of a single child.

Community Promise's ultimate success depends on community support.  Our ability to deliverer the services to Kalamazoo grow with every contribution we receive.  Your gift today can help us provide a better tomorrow for hard-working families and individuals who need a credit union that is there to help them succeed.

The KCDP Executive Committee meeting follows at 6:30pm
