Cooney Congressional Campaign Announcement
01/05/08 07:25
All 6th Congressional District
voters:
We're getting a late start but we have a candidate to take on Fred Upton. Don Cooney, a Kalamazoo City Commissioner and LONG time progressive activist, has thrown his hat in the ring. NOW we need 1000 petition signatures! It is a big hurdle but I think we can do it. Although I am not an official representative of the campaign, here's what I'd like to see happen over the next couple of weeks:
- First and foremost, every well-connected 6th District Democrat needs to sign a petition. I will send you one if you need me to.
- Those of you who can spare a couple of hours should GO GATHER SIGNATURES! The best place to do this is a polling place on election day, May 6th. Can you volunteer to collect signatures for any portion of that day? If so, email or call me!

Galien in Berrien County on Saturday morning (April 19) to elect

Following the results of Michigan's January 15 Presidential Primary Election, 6th District Democrats chose three (3) delegates and one (1) alternate pledged to Hillary Rodham Clinton (HRC) and two (2) delegates pledged to [formally] "uncommitted" (U).
Those elected are

Saturday, April 12, 2008, is Carl
Levin Petition Day!

Volunteers across the state will be meeting at post offices, farmers' markets, downtown areas, shopping centers and other high traffic areas to collect nominating signatures for Senator Levin.
We are asking that volunteers work two hour shifts, but we are appreciative of every signature collected.
If anyone has some petitions at home or in an office, we ask that they send those in to Dem HQ by April 17th.
We will send out more petitions to anyone in need. (All petitions are due by April 17th)
We would like to know where and when we will volunteer, so if you can contact us so we can keep track of where people will be and when, we would appreciate it.
Though we do have a few specific suggested areas, volunteers are encouraged to go to any high traffic area close to where they live.
Please contact:
kzoodemchair@yahoo.com
if you would like to help.
(We need any outstanding petitions back by April 17th)

Next Stop Michigan
09/01/08 11:50
Important Information for all
Democrats!
The next stop in this year's exciting Presidential primary is the great state of Michigan. Unfortunately, maneuvers by both our state legislature and the Democratic National Committee have resulted in some of our leading Democratic candidates removing their names from our primary ballot.
CLINTON and KUCINICH supporters should vote for their candidate on January 15th.
We at the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party want you to know, if you support a presidential candidate that is not on our ballot, you CAN still vote to give them support at the National Convention – by voting UNCOMMITTED on January 15th. By voting Uncommitted, you are voting for delegates who will vote for candidates not on the ballot. Michigan Democrats can support Obama, Edwards, and Richardson by voting "Uncommitted".
You can still vote for your candidate by voting "Uncommitted".
DO NOT WRITE CANDIDATES IN. Write-in votes will NOT COUNT. Those voters that wish to support Obama, Edwards or Richardson need to vote UNCOMMITTED.
Again, CLINTON and KUCINICH supporters should vote for their candidate on January 15th.
More Important Information to take with you to the polls on January 15th.
*Bring a photo ID with you, if you don't have a photo ID, you can sign an affidavit and still vote.
*Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
*Vote at your regular polling place.
*You must be registered to vote.
*Deadline to register to vote was December 17th.
*There maybe people outside your polling place asking you to sign 3 different petitions:
***DO NOT SIGN***
1. Right to Work
2. Part-time State Legislature
***DO NOT SIGN THEM***
3. Universal Health-Care
*Please sign this one*
*When you show up to the polls, you will be asked if you want a Democratic Ballot or a Republican Ballot.
*The following names will appear on the Democratic Ballot:
-Hilary Clinton
-Dennis Kucinich
-Chris Dodd
-Mike Gravel
-Uncommitted
-Write In
*Write-In votes will NOT be counted
*If you support:
-Barack Obama
-John Edwards
-Bill Richardson
You need to vote for "Uncommitted"
*On Saturday, March 29, 2008 beginning at 10 A.M we will meet at the District Convention to elect Delegates to the National Convention in Denver.
*If "Uncommitted" receives at least 15% of the vote, we will meet at a District Convention to elect "Uncommitted" Delegates to the National Convention.
*At the District Convention, vote for the "Uncommitted" Delegate who supports your candidate.
*We will also elect Delegates who support the other candidates on the ballot who receive at least 15% of the vote.
*In order to vote at the District Convention on Saturday, March 29, 2008 you must be either a:
-Precinct Delegate, who are members of the Michigan Democratic Party. If you are not a member, you may pay your dues on that day and vote at the District Convention.
or
-Member of the Michigan Democratic Party, at least 30 days prior to the District Convention. Deadline to join and still be able to vote at the District Convention is February 28, 2008.
*Democrats who are 18 years old on or before November 4th, 2008 are eligible to vote for Delegates and run for Delegate.
*At this time, we may or may not hold a MDP Presidential Caucus on February 9th.

Primary/Caucus Situation
06/12/07 23:56
Important message from the Chair
On the Primary / Caucus situation
As of right now we are scheduled to have a Primary on Jan. 15th. The 4 candidates who withdrew their names from the Ballot will not be on the Ballot.
The effort in the State Legleslature to put their name back on the ballot was blocked by Senate Republicans.
Write-in candidates will not be counted.
You will have an oppurtunity to vote for "uncommitted". If uncommitted recieves at least 15% of the vote in the 6th District or State-wide, we will then meet at the 6th District Convention, this spring an elect "uncommitted" Delegates to the Convention in Denver.
If you support
*Joe Biden
*Bill Richardson
*Barack Obama
*John Edwards
You need to vote uncommitted on Januaray 15th.
Then be prepared to come to the 6th District Convention (Look for date, time, location notices soon), sometime this spring and vote for the "uncommitted" Delegate who supports your candidate.
I know its very complicated and confusing, but please remember this is about November 4th, 2008 and taking back the White House. The Democratic Nominee can not win the Electoral College without Michigan.
At this time, we also may hold a Caucus on Febuary 9th, but we may not.
Stay tuned and check our wesite www.kzoodems.com for any further updates.
