Happy Outcomes of a Great Evening!

I am pleased to report that the St. Patrick's Day celebration held
last night at the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party Headquarters was a
success! County Commissioners Carolyn Alford, Robert Barnard, Leroy
Crabtree, John Nieuwenhuis and Frank Thompson served up party-goers a
traditional Irish Corn Beef and Cabbage dinner. There was a merry
mood as Democrats, old friends and some new, gathered together to
catch up and enthusiastically discuss the political scene. State
Representative Robert B. Jones came by to say hello, as well as
candidates Julie Rogers (61st House District), Phyllis Smith (63rd
House District), Richard Fuller (Co. Sheriff) and Mark Miller (KTwp
Trustee). The first great outcome!

At the end of the evening, after the totals were tallied, not only was
there success in fund raising, but there were new members joining the
KCDP - as well as several membership renewals. A second great outcome!

The third great outcome is my personal favorite. The food for the St.
Patrick's Day party was in excess, and at the end of the night the
leftovers were packed up. This morning I had the privilege of
delivering enough food to feed probably fifty people lunch at the
Ministry with Community on N. Church St. I was met by their staff and
explained the roots of the contribution to them. The contribution of
food was warmly accepted. The entire experience was amazing and I
left feeling very proud of the Kalamazoo County Blue Tiger Democrat
project.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a success – and
for those of you who did not make it this time – we'll see you at the
next Kalamazoo County Democratic Party project!

Support Responsible Legislation

Today at the Radisson Hotel a group called the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance (MTA) will be hosting a "recall boot camp", using hired consultants from Wisconsin to train interested persons in the process to recall elected officials. The MTA is chaired by Leon Drolet. Mr. Drolet was also a leader in the force which brought Proposal 2 - the amendment to Michigan's state constitution and ended affirmation action. His new goal for Michigan - scare our legislators in Lansing who have said they will support the revenue increase created to balance Michigan's budget. The MTA has declared that legislators who vote in favor of the revenue increase should be recalled - and they are going out across Michigan trying to sell their message.

Come today and stand in support of Representative Robert B. Jones as he publicly addresses the MTA about realities of Michigan's budget crisis at the Radisson Hotel at 6:30 p.m. today to demonstrate to the MTA that Kalamazoo and its voters are concerned about keeping Michigan families first. That huge, devastating cuts into education and health care are not acceptable - and that their scare tactics will not prevent us from supporting our legislatures who make responsible choices for Michigan families!

Organize in Protest today against Mr. Drolet and the MTA!

Don't Let Them Hurt Michigan

An anti-tax group, who are threatening to ruin the State of Michigan, is having a "Boot-Camp" to teach people how to recall Representatives in Lansing who vote for any tax increase. The boot-camp is at the Radisson Hotel at 7pm-9pm next Wednesday the 18th. We would like to get some union leaders and activists in the training itself and Party Activists protesting outside. Students would be great to protest the ever increasing rise in tuition, etc.

There will be more information to follow in the next few days. Representative Jones and the House Dem Caucus would appreciate any help you can offer.

If you have any questions, please contact Cheri Bell or Dave Kinsey or Nate Krefman
