Resolution
in Support for the Striking Drivers of Care-A-Van.
Whereas; Care-A-Van is a federally funded program and,
Whereas; Care-A-Van is administered by the City of Kalamazoo,
Whereas; The City of Kalamazoo contracts this service to Pride-Care,
Whereas; On August 1st, members of IBT Local 7 went on strike against Pride-Care,
Whereas; we recognize the workers competent and professional work they have done in the past,
And are worthy of the pay and benefits that they deserve
Whereas; that without their courage, the Health and Safety concerns of the riders would not have come to light
Whereas; as of January 1st, 2009, the County-Wide Transit Authority will take over the administration of Care-A-Van,
Whereas; there are several millages, needing voter approval in the near future to fund the County-Wide Transit Authority,
Whereas; this whole situation jeopardizes the Transit Authority's ability to get voter approval for key funding,
Be it further resolved; the members of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party
Wish to show our support for the striking Care-A-Van Drivers,
And be it further resolved; that we support a quick and equitable solution
And be it further resolved; that we strongly urge Pride-Care to bargain in good faith with their workers
And be it further resolved; That a copy of this resolution be sent to Teamsters Local 7, Andy Muelman, Business Agent for IBT Local 7, Kalamazoo City Commission, Kalamazoo County Commission, Kalamazoo County-Wide Transit Authority and Pride-Care
Resolution adopted Thursday, September 20, 2007. (Unanimously)
